What are the Cons of Existing Homes?

What are the Cons of Existing Homes?

By: Jerika P –  i-Lead Realty Social Media Manager

1. Outdated floor plans

The floor plan is usually from a different era and not the one you are looking for, unless the house has been completely renovated, in which case you will find a more modern look.

2. Outdated technology and fixtures

Similar to the floor plan, older homes will mostly have outdated technology, such as door knobs built in the first half of the twentieth century. While it is possible to upgrade the wiring and install smart technology, it may cost more than installing them in newly built homes because they must be removed and redone.

3. Energy inefficient

Older homes may be poorly insulated, and some may rely on more polluting heating resources, such as oil. This can result in more demand on your Heating and cooling systems that can be costly. Ensure you know what state the home’s heater and other appliances condition are.

4. Potential for more repairs and maintenance

Unexpected plumbing, roofing, or heating system repairs may cost you more than expected. It is always important to know what the state of the home’s AC, Heater, Plumbing…etc. Before you buy.
