Open House Cleaning Checklist

It can be very stressful to prepare your home for sale. You might not know where to begin with so many tasks that need to be completed in a short period of time. The very first thing you have to do is clean your house. Here’s a guide on how to clean your house before doing an open house.

1. Start by organizing each space.

You might start by cleaning up the clutter in each room. Check everything that needs to be donated, disposed of, or kept.

2. Start at the top and work your way down.

Once you’ve finished organizing each space, you can begin cleaning it. The top-to-bottom, left-to-right rule should be followed. This will make it easier to clean every surface.

3. Clean the kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in a house. Even though your kitchen is outdated, you may still impress buyers by ensuring that it is in pristine condition.

4. Bathrooms should always be kept clean

Even when you’ve already done a thorough cleaning, keeping it polished can be challenging. Make it a habit to clean the bathroom frequently, and instruct your family to do the same.

5. Highlight the window view

If your home has a beautiful view, you can emphasize it by hanging sheer curtains. However, if the view is directly into your neighbor’s home, you can block it out with a Roman shade or some wooden blinds.

6. Shine the floors

If your home has carpets, clean it yourself or pay a service to do it for you. Polish and mop tile and wood floors. Area rugs tend to make rooms appear smaller, so roll them up and stow them away.

7. Make the best possible impression

You only have one opportunity to make a good first impression, so seize it! Lay out a fresh welcome mat, paint the front door, fix any screens, clean the stairs and porch.
