In recent years, there has been a huge surge in the popularity of open house events for prospective buyers, thanks to their large part in their convenience and ability to showcase a home in a variety of ways. Open houses are a great marketing tool for real estate agents to get prospective buyers through the door and increase potential interest in a property. However, with increased numbers of people perusing a home, an important consideration is whether or not to allow dogs on the premises during such an event. It is essential that homeowners not let their dogs stay during an open house for a number of reasons.

1. They can be a distraction to buyers

It’s understandable that homeowners love their dogs dearly, and they may have a difficult time not wanting to show off their beloved pets. However, it’s important to remember that open houses are intended to help buyers get a better picture of the home, and a dog can be a major distraction. People may be more focused on the dog than the home, and it can be hard for them to make an informed decision about buying the house if they are constantly paying attention to the dog.

2. Hygiene and sanitation concerns

When a large number of people enter a home, it’s important to make sure that it is clean and free of bacteria. Allowing a dog to stay in the house during an open house may result in mud and dirt being tracked in or pet hair everywhere. This can be a major eyesore to potential buyers and can create a negative impression on the home.

3. Might trigger pet allergies

Though many people have the most loving attitude toward animals, some individuals have severe allergies that can be triggered by drool, dander, fur, and other debris. Allergic reactions can be unpredictable and even dangerous so it’s important to stay on the safe side and not allow pets during open houses.
